My sister and I were walking into Black Swan last night when she turned and said to me, "Gee, I guess we might want to be ballerinas after this." We then cacked ourselves laughing as Lynches aren't really built to be ballerinas. I'm 5'10" and she's a bit taller and neither of us could be described as slight. Also, at 48 and 46 we may have left our run a tads too late. Three of her friends had said the movie was bollocks but we went anyway and both LOVED it although it did not make us want to be ballerinas even if there was a snowball's chance in hell of that happening. Natalie Portman is transfixing as the obsessive dancer chasing perfection in the role of the queen in Swan Lake. I was on the edge of my chair the whole film - could hardly concentrate on the person sniffing continuously further down the aisle. A tense psychological thriller with a crazy mother, a saucy temptress, a cruel boss, Winona Ryder and a lot of thin girls dancing. I mean really - what's not to love?
