Publication date for Dolci Down Under

It is with great pleasure that I can now announce that my new book, known as Dolci di Love, will be published in New Zealand and Australia in April/May next year. It comes out around the same time in the US. I'm pretty excited about being published in Australia but it's a reallysurprised sort of excitement because actually I thought I already was. This is not the sort of finger-on-the-pulse attention to career details for which I would like to be known. I did think it was a bit odd I could never...

A Spring in my Step

Where does the time go? I could swear I only saw that Swedish move five minutes ago. I guess it's true what the old folks say, that time really does fly. I guess I am an old folk now. Bugger. I felt particularly old taking my god-daughter and nephew to see Step Up 3D a week or so ago, let me tell you. Not having kids of my own it's easy to get out of step. I didn't realise they had computers in schools now days. What next - calculators? The other thing about not having kids of your own is that y...

Boy, Those Swedes

We've just been to see The Girl Who Played With Fire, the sequel to The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Actually, we took a refresher course before going to Fire by watching Tattoo on DVD. This, by the way, is a lot of Swedish blood and gore for a 24 hour period. I loved the first two of Steig Larsson's millenium trilogy books but didn't quite make it through the third. However, I will see the third movie because I think they're very well done. And while it's massively complicated to read all those...

Writing Makes You Fat

Bindi makes a comment below about putting on weight while reading my books. Let me tell you, I was the size of a house by the time I finished writing Blessed Are the CHEESEMAKERS and By BREAD ALONE. I ate nothing but washed rind or blue cheese for about three years and followed that up with two years of sourdough bread. I'm not gluten or lactose intolerant but I jolly well should be. Researching champagne was actually quite slimming by comparison and Dolci di Love, which I've just finished, real...

It's Only Words...

My cousin Matthew and his wife Barbara have been staying this weekend and we're having a blitz, as my mother would say, on words that drive us crazy. I loathe the over use of the word "awesome" because it used to mean something that truly inspired awe and now it's the what someone says if they like your trainers. Barbara has a similar issue with "Irregardless" which is not a word but is how people sometimes start a sentence when they actually mean "Regardless". She and I both don't care for "whi...

Queen of Research...

Lisa has posted a comment on my July 16 blog (God bless you, Lisa) suggesting I might have had a fine old time researching The House of Peine or House of Daughters as it is called in the US. She is correct. I had two lengthy trips to the Champagne region of France which is about an hour and a half's drive out of Paris if you are a normal person or a six hour drive if you are me and have two maps none of which feature the bit of France you happen to be in. I stayed with the Tarlant family near Ep...
